Saturday, Feb. 19: Beinn Narnain

Scotland - February 2022

Written somewhere once that I keep a top 10 ‘most beautiful places to pitch your tent’;
this one stands a good chance.

And once again, old-fashioned snow melting (“pan” at lower left of entrance) to make a cup of coffee.

Same image as yesterday but slightly clearer (upper left) the back/uphill to Beinn Narnain.

Picked up new Crampons in Glasgow.

Important to “put these under” in time (and so not when you are fumbling on a ledge somewhere), in this case right from departure.

Nice Crampons but for the first part I would have preferred skis or snowshoes.

Finally left the standard route (the trail) to go all the way back to the valley to take its own route on the other side.

Idea was to do 2 Munro’s today but I was happy in the end that at least 1 can be crossed off.

With a larger/heavier backpack, it takes a lot of strength, and therefore time and energy, to plow through the deep snow.

Three Guys from Leeds who were also on their way to the Beinn Narnain but kept taking slightly different routes.

Visibility was poor so I walked on my GPS but 1 of the 3 had a (neatly folded) map with him that he occasionally picked up and then folded again as it is in the store.

I folded the area where I walk into a separate (waterproof) folder so I always have the same map in front of me.
The entire route (for that day) is on my map.
Proves once again that more roads lead to the Beinn Narnain!
