Thailand
'father & son road trip'
December 2025

Van Phuket naar Bangkok met 4 tussenstops

Duration: 16 days, 15 nights
Region: Thailand
Kilometers: 1535

Our youngest son is six months "in the East" and thought we as a family would come and celebrate Christmas with him.

Now, I should add that the above trip was not "planned well in advance," to put it mildly, so I was happy that I ended up being the only one to take an incredible road trip with Hidde.

No "Scottish Adventure" this time but an adventure it was!

The last time I saw Hidde was with the uitmarkt in Schagen at the end of August.

Friends of his were performing there and I walked with him, and the dogs, in that direction to go watch.
Beautiful weather, shorts and some shade to listen to 'Tight Plan'.

Most Beautiful Video

Wonderful first miles of this adventure with words of wisdom heading towards 7 wonderful days of solo hiking around and over Ben Alder!

Our youngest (of 3) still lives at home so we can't miss him. The oldest 2 live in Amsterdam (Zuid and Oost) and come to Schiphol independently. It is wonderful when the whole bunch is together again and we are sitting together over a cup of coffee. Of course everyone (at the time of writing 20, 24 and 26) has their own lives with their own vacations and their own agendas but these are highlights! We are fortunate with the daughters-in-law but regularly try to take the 5 of us (our family) out for an adventure. Of course we also do this including our "following" but this is old-fashioned enjoyment. The men see each other regularly and not only at our house but going out with the family is so familiar that it really feels like a party every time! Familiar humor, banter, competitions for anything and everything with, of course, standard games and quizzes; party!!!

This starts from the moment we give each other a hug at the airport until we say goodbye again a week later at the same place.

2. Preview

I know Eveline does not like precipices so I deliberately chose this Munro. Easy Munro's, more on that later, do not exist but this one is "surveyable". All of Scotland is beautiful but this location has everything!

Besides the Munro, incl standard beautiful scenery, a Loch, a boat ride, an old-fashioned hotel and also its own Whiskey.

3. The journey

I regularly get asked what people should see in Scotland and this trip is a defined answer. In a week you see part of this beautiful country but of course that period of time is too short to see everything. I do act tough that I go this way often but there are a lot of areas I have never been to. Cities I haven't seen yet but are on "the list. Islands I dream about but are in the future. Munros waiting to be crossed off. Hikes I'm already looking forward to. Camping spots that will undoubtedly end up in my top 10.

That is precisely a beautiful part of traveling; looking forward to the next adventure. This is an example of how to experience a beautiful part of Scotland.
