Scotland
‘family adventure’
August 2025

Started from Glasgow via Tarbet to Inverness for 1 Munro

Duration: 7 days, 6 nights
Region: Scotland
Kilometers: 153
Ascent: 5710 meters

This time a very different (Scottish) adventure. This time, again, we made a plan for a week. This time, however, exactly, regarding Munro’s, where and when the only Munro was on the agenda. Other than that, lots of walking and even a day of cycling!

1 Munro during this adventure:

Ben Lomond

I capture stories through video and photography.

My good friend Edwin Veer transforms them into stunning visuals.

Of course, it had to happen sometime and in retrospect (as I understand from “the family”) it took far too long.
After 12 adventures and countless visits in my previous life, now for the first time with our family to Scotland.

The route was, of course, pre-calculated but for that I refer to my 5th Scottish Adventure.

Of course the Munro’s during this Scottish Adventure
also planned again based on the information from fellow Munro-Baggers on WalkHighlands.

Below are the links to the Munros from this Adventure:

Our youngest (of 3) still lives at home so we can’t miss him. The oldest 2 live in Amsterdam (Zuid and Oost) and come to Schiphol independently. It is wonderful when the whole bunch is together again and we are sitting together over a cup of coffee. Of course everyone (at the time of writing 20, 24 and 26) has their own lives with their own vacations and their own agendas but these are highlights! We are fortunate with the daughters-in-law but regularly try to take the 5 of us (our family) out for an adventure. Of course we also do this including our “following” but this is old-fashioned enjoyment. The men see each other regularly and not only at our house but going out with the family is so familiar that it really feels like a party every time! Familiar humor, banter, competitions for anything and everything with, of course, standard games and quizzes; party!!!

This starts from the moment we give each other a hug at the airport until we say goodbye again a week later at the same place.

2. Preview

I know Eveline does not like precipices so I deliberately chose this Munro. Easy Munro’s, more on that later, do not exist but this one is “surveyable”. All of Scotland is beautiful but this location has everything!

Besides the Munro, incl standard beautiful scenery, a Loch, a boat ride, an old-fashioned hotel and also its own Whiskey.

3. The journey

I regularly get asked what people should see in Scotland and this trip is a defined answer. In a week you see part of this beautiful country but of course that period of time is too short to see everything. I do act tough that I go this way often but there are a lot of areas I have never been to. Cities I haven’t seen yet but are on “the list. Islands I dream about but are in the future. Munros waiting to be crossed off. Hikes I’m already looking forward to. Camping spots that will undoubtedly end up in my top 10.

That is precisely a beautiful part of traveling; looking forward to the next adventure. This is an example of how to experience a beautiful part of Scotland.
