May 2025 – 12th Scottish Adventure

Scotland
‘Ben alder 9’
day 2 of 7
friday 2 may

Wonderful first Munro !

The above photo you have of course already recognized from my 11th Scottish Adventure.

Reason I left this one is that you see perfectly the first part of this (12th) adventure.

The path is the way to my tent by the lake.
The first forest is where the 3 deer were waiting for me yesterday.
Behind the 2nd forest, by the lake I pitched my tent.

If you turn left before the lake you will come to the Bothy from
which you can see if you look closely.

In the background the first Munro’s of this adventure.

1 Munro this day:

Beinn a’ Chlachair

Again, these Munro’s planned based on information from fellow Munro-Baggers on WalkHighlands.

Below are the links to the day’s Munros:

Beinn a’Chlachair

I wrote about the castles on the Loch yesterday and, of course, I also love luxury.

An important part of the happiness I feel
during my adventures is the
simple, orderly life
in my “Scottish home.

My tent that after all the nights
in so many ridiculously beautiful places
still feels like the
most beautiful place on earth.

Wherever he stands!

Then again, when my good friend Edwin
passes his magic arts over my image
I could personally spend hours looking
at the “picture” below.

I capture stories through video and photography.

My good friend Edwin Veer transforms them into stunning visuals.

Most Beautiful Video

This is indeed not comparable to diving in darkness which looks just a bit more challenging with 0 meters visibility anyway.

Fortunately, we have the video footage to back this up.

Unfortunately, no footage of the skit by John Cleese and Michael Palin. (See the 3rd part of this day’s details below)

Details
this day

1. First walk of this adventure

I won’t bother you with route planning in detail.
Looking at tomorrow’s route, I actually wanted to approach this first Munro
from the East.

The place where I would find my fantastic lunch spot tomorrow, which I so did not know today 😉 would then have been the start for the last part of that route.

While I was on the road I walked on a beautiful trail that I followed only to cross over to the one I talk about above.

The area you see in the photo with the BLD Media logo so you won’t confuse this with Edwin’s Art (Capital K).

2. Fog!

I had already looked on the map to see where I could take off.
Due to the fog higher up in the hills, I could not estimate how far east of the summit this was possible.

If you look at the route above (Komoot) you will see that on the way out,
just to be sure, I kept more East until I was on said route.

On the way back, with better visibility, I finally chose to turn off earlier toward the valley. Walked by feel towards the path where I thought I had ended up much closer to my tent than the place I had crossed up that morning. You can see that I did cross the route I took up as I descended.

Finally pretty much at the same spot where I left the trail that morning I was back from ascending / descending.

So much for my “feeling” but more importantly confidence in it.

3. Humor

I regularly walk through, dense, fog.
Sometimes in conditions comparable to diving in dark water; 0 visibility.
Of course I always have map and compass with me which I regularly check but the most important ‘signpost’ is and remains my GPS.

While I was ascending, 2 shadows descended, though on compass for which extra Kudos!, and were having a lot of fun in the process.

English humor which boiled down to the fact that they were going to sue someone.
They had not yet figured out who but had many candidates;
travel agency, the king, their wife who had sent them away with a small tent all weekend and so on.

This with such a steely face that for a moment I thought I had entered a Monthy Python Scene. Campers always need to know “where your tent is,” in their case north of the place I write about above and tomorrow. (the wonderful lunch location).

We said goodbye while they promised themselves and each other an extra Whiskey that evening.
