Scotland - Day 5 of 7 - Sunday, Oct. 13

October 2024 - 11th Scottish Adventure
Standard 7 days (click here for explanation)

Beautiful Horseshoe Munro

In advance, I never know how many Munro’s I will do on which day.

This depends on so many factors that I
love to let it come to me.

For example, this day I lost a lot of time
trying to find a rivercrossing!

Of course I had seen the bridges on the map but I thought I’d cut a piece off.
Jumping through the river from rock to rock.
Always wet feet but satisfying
once you’re on the other side.

In this case from stone to stone
to half.
And back again.

I would have been better off walking straight to the bridge.
Especially look at the map to see how long I
slogged through the tall grass.
At the edge of a stream.
While 200 meters back
there was a path to the bridge.

And that was also the path on which I had hiked towards
that same river!

Of course no time lost.
A piece of ego though.
With full confidence that
I will make the same stupid mistake again next time.

1 Munro this day:

Again, these Munro’s planned based on information from fellow Munro-Baggers on WalkHighlands.

Below are the links to the day’s Munros:

Most Beautiful Video

A word about the beautiful sculpture at the very top of this page. This statue was literally my front yard these days.

In the video, if you look closely, you can see my tent behind the bush.

Tent out, 2x left and another great day of hiking in this beautiful area!

Details
this day

1. Bridges

Mentioned above that this was a very mean river.
From a distance, it looked like a babbling brook.
Easy to cross.
Until halfway across. Where it got deep. Too deep.
And back again.
50 meters further on (toward the bridge) another try.
Then another 6x.

2. Rivercrossing

Is a Dutch word for crossing a river.

On the picture on the right you can see that the river is deep where it seems to be ‘standing still’.
A little further on you see some pebbles and you think you can walk across them.
9 out of 10 times it goes well. 7 out of 10 times you still get your feet wet.
This time was the 10th time and I still had to cross the bridge, with shame on my cheeks.

3. No bridge

There’s nothing more fun than dredging along/through a small river a bit stupid.
On the way to a beautiful Munro.
This bridge (see the beginning of a then bridge on the right in the photo) was also on the map but I couldn’t even do anything about this.
There was no bridge! (more)
Always like it better to make a round trip but so now via the same, beautiful, route back to the first bridge.
