Scotland 'Dahlwinnie 7' - Day 2 - Thursday, Oct. 10

October 2024 - 11th Scottish Adventure
Standard 7 days (click here for explanation)

Munro’s again at last!
(4 west of the A9)

During my 9th adventure (on my way to Newtonmore) I drove through here
but now this was the, first, terminus!

Beautiful place again and as I walked around the corner toward my first sleeping spot
I immediately saw a nice reward if I were to get back on the train here a few days later

(a wonderful coffee stop!)

4 Munro’s this day:

Geal-Chárn (Drumochter) – A Mharconaich – Beinn Udlamain – Sgairneach Mhor

Again, these Munro’s planned based on information from fellow Munro-Baggers on WalkHighlands.

Below are the links to the day’s Munros:

Geal-Chárn
A Mharconaich
Beinn Udlamain
Sgairneach Mhor

Finally getting to the Scottish Highlands again.
The enjoyment begins for me as soon as I walk off the plane.
Speaking to my regular friend at Customs.
Who always asks what I’ve come to do.
Whether business or personal.

I then reply “Bagging Munro’s.”
And that this is ultimately a combination of both.
He always asks how many Munro’s I’ve done
and then replies, with restrained pride,
“I 183, but that was a long time ago.

There will come a day when I catch up with him but
that may take a very long time from me!

Most Beautiful Video

The route on Komoot looks simple.

Flat, uncluttered and short.

Therefore, a real, realistic representation using a map.

4 Munro’s in 2 minutes on 1 map!

You can clearly see 3 of them on the map itself.
That’s why the confusion with the title of the video.

Details
this day

1. First walk of this adventure

The photo is the road from Dahlwinnie station to the first place to sleep.
A9 is not shown but so it runs here to the left of the walking/cycling path.
To the right, between the water and the hill, runs the rails of the train and I always have to look myself in the arm when I am back in this beautiful country after a while. It is like being allowed to peek into a living viewing box while being fully part of the elements around you. Rain, sun, wind but above all the realization that it is a gift to be here every time!

2. Estimating time

Is always difficult because the duration of the day depends on, too, many factors.
Altitude difference, the weather, pace, fatigue, breaks, loss of time due to far too many photos, videos but most of all enjoyment and so on.

Normally this does not matter because I always have my tent with me.
If you leave it somewhere you have to get back to that tent at the end of the day of course.

3. Next Adventures

Why I seriously hope this adventure (Baggin Munro’s) never comes to an end is that while enjoying it during the specific adventure, you are also already looking back to future adventures.

In this case, the photos on this page, taken after the first Munro this day, already show some future challenges that will again become part of my “12th Scottish Adventure.
