OCTOBER 2024 – 11TH SHOT ADVENTURE

Scotland
‘kingusie 4’
day 6 of 7
Monday, October 14

The Longest Day!

Every adventure has a longest day
In my case it is almost always the last full,
and so 6th of 7th, day.

Normally I only have selfies because, after all, I hike everything solo.
This day I saw a family standing on the top of the first Munro and realized what a beautiful picture this was. Especially for the family itself, of course.

They were celebrating the summit in a close hug when I called them and took some pictures.
Then they offered to take some pictures of me but I am a very modest person. Of course I also have my pride but especially for the loyal readers I agreed.

Therefore the above photo.
Below is the photo I took of them.

If you go to the home page of this adventure
and look at ‘the most beautiful video’ you will see them walking away from the summit.

3 Munro’s this day:

Sgor Gaoith – Monadh Mor – Beinn Bhrotain

Again, these Munro’s planned based on information from fellow Munro-Baggers on WalkHighlands.

Below are the links to the day’s Munros:

Most Beautiful Video

The last Munro of this adventure
at the end of the afternoon
of this wonderful day.

Details
this day

1. Northern Lights

Understood from fellow Hikers I spoke to along the way that total madness has broken out in this area! THE Northern Lights were visible over The Cairngorms! I was shown photos by a couple that showed this could be seen far beyond the area.

Let me just now have a long walk planned where I did not expect to be home before dark

2. Disappointment

Stopped several times, sat down to a cup of tea.
In the dark.
Looked around me.
No Northern Lights!

3. Humor

The beauty of being alone for so long is that you don’t go out in the dark alone looking for the Northern Lights. If you look on the map (Komoot) you can see a very straight line I walked in the evening. Map, Compass, Garmin Montana 700i but for this stretch romantically ‘navigated by the stars’.
So busy studying the sky (in addition to the Northern Lights, that is, the one star that would take me to my tent) that I suddenly found myself knee-deep in Scottish Mud!
Now that happens more often but ending up in a nasty smelly old-fashioned Scottish bog in this way too I found quite comical!

No Northern Lights but a wonderful mud bath!
