Scotland 'Dahlwinnie 7 - Kingussie 4'

October 2024 - 11th Scottish Adventure
Standard 7-day Scottish Adventure (click here for explanation)

Started from Station Dahlwinnie and Station Kingussie for 11 Munros

Duration: 7 days, 6 nights
Region: Loch Ericht to Glen Tromie and
Glen Garry – Cairngorms
Mileage: 116
Ascent: 6060 meters

Like every (Scottish) adventure, this time too we made a plan for a week in which each time it depends on the circumstances (a.o. the weather) how many kilometers are eventually run

11 Munro’s during this adventure:

Geal-Chárn (Drumochter) – A Mharconaich – Beinn Udlamain – Sgairneach Mhor
A’Bhuidheanach Bheag – Carn Na Caim – Meall Chuaich
Mullach Clach a Bhlair
Sgor Gaoith – Monadh Mor – Beinn Bhrotain

Flown to Inverness for the 3rd time this adventure.
This is by now the standard destination but 3x is the charm
which in this case means I won’t mention it again.

Of course, there is always room for improvement so where I
normally late afternoon or even evening
departure from Schiphol
this time deliberately flew late morning.

That was very good and so from now on the, new, standard.
In the afternoon I go for a nice walk in Inverness.
Immediately buy all the things I can’t take with me on the plane
which saves on the first real walking day.

Below is the full collection on Komoot.
Bottom left is the link for all routes on Komoot but you can
also click directly on the individual routes.

Of course the Munro’s during this Scottish Adventure
also planned again based on information from fellow Munro-Baggers on WalkHighlands.

Below are the links to the Munros from this adventure:

Geal-Chár A Mharconaich – Beinn Udlamain – Sgairneach Mhor
A’Bhuidheanach Bheag – Monadh Mor – Beinn Bhrotain
Mullach Clach a’Bhlair
Sgor Gaoith – Monadh MorBeinn Bhrotain

Most Beautiful Video

All Munro’s are beautiful but some Munro’s are more beautiful than others !!???

Of course, this also depends on the weather and on the longest day of that adventure (day 6), the weather was fantastic, clear!
Sgòr Gaoith is such a nicer than beautiful Munro!

Details

1. A whole week on the road with only 2 tent locations!

Normally I am happy if I can leave my tent in the same place for 2 nights. Instead of my full backpack, I then walk with one, much smaller but mostly lighter. This adventure I was able to leave my tent up for THE WHOLE WEEK.

2. A9 is indeed a very busy road!

On the unsurpassed WalkHighLands, I regularly read the most horrific stories from fellow Munro Baggers about the traffic jams on this road.

Disadvantage of the first 3 days of this adventure was that I literally walked along the A9 and it is indeed very busy! 😉

3. Lighter is not always easier, especially when it gets dark

Probably sound strange but walking with a big, heavy backpack has advantages too! Fewer miles at a slower pace but especially not walking in the dark. Further substantiation can be found in my books and, of course, on this website.
